Beef Share FAQ's

FAQs

How much does it cost to buy in bulk?

Quarter, half, and whole shares of beef are all sold by the hanging weight and custom processed to your specifications.

We charge $5.50 per pound based on the hanging weight regardless of the size share you select. This includes all processing fees.

How much on average does a whole beef animal cost?

For a 1000-pound steer, the approximate hanging weight would be 600 pounds, at $5.50/lb your purchase price would be $3,300.

With a typical yield of 66% of the hanging weight, you should take home about 400 pounds of cut beef. Keep in mind every animal is a little different and they vary in size so your final cost and take home amount will vary by animal.

How will my meat be packaged?

Each piece will be vacuum sealed in a one or two pack (depending on your choices) in clear packaging and labeled with the name of the cut.

Do you offer front or back quarters?

We do not offer front or back quarters; what you will receive is simply a percentage of the entire available beef. Bear in mind that you are purchasing 1 portion of the whole animal when you purchase a quarter beef share.

If I order less than a whole beef share do I have to find the other folks to purchase the rest of the share?

Nope! We will take care of matching up the various quarter and half beef shares so you don't need to find someone to share with.

How many steaks should I expect to get back with my beef share?

Regardless of the size beef share you select the meat you get back will consist of approximately the following 50% ground beef, 30% roasts, and 20% steaks.

How much storage space do I need?

Many people ask how much freezer storage space they will need. As a general rule of thumb you should plan for 1 cubic foot of freezer space per 35-40 pounds of meat. (1 cubic foot of space is roughly the size of a full large brown grocery bag.) For example, a half beef share final product weighs approximately 190-210 pounds. So, you should plan for 4.75-5.5 cubic feet.

Disclaimer: The numbers provided in this FAQ are averages and will not be exactly the same for every share that we sell. Each animal dresses out differently and how the animal is processed to the customers request creates differences in take home yield and processing price.
