Our Cows - Beyond Organic

Did you know that buying organic beef does not equal grass fed? Organically raised cows are only required to have 30% of their intake in grass. And for up to the last 120 days, they can be fed a 100% grain diet to “fatten them up.” Our cows spend their entire lives grazing our diverse forage pastures, with access to high quality supplements such as sea salt and Nordic sea kelp. They live the life nature intended for them.

There’s a saying that when it comes to meat, it’s not what you eat, but what you eat eats. This means cows that are grain fed in a conventional or organic, grain-based system, have a completely different nutritional makeup than those that are grass fed, grass finished. Within 48 hours of introducing grain into a cow’s diet, you can diminish many of the healthy nutritive qualities of the meat (CLA’s, Omega 3 to Omega 6 balance) by as much as 50%. And, it takes a minimum of 7 months to get those levels back to their original levels. Allowing them to grow on an all forage diet, as they would in nature, our cows produce more omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidant vitamins, and less unhealthy fats.  Add in that our cows are never exposed to pesticides, and given no antibiotics or artificial hormones, and you have beef you can feel good about eating. Plus, it tastes amazing!
